🌟Welcome to Our Story🌟
😊🌟😄We asked, “How do people learn to work together and still stay happy?”😊🌟😄
In this blog article, we will cover:
📋 Daily Feedback
💬 Agree to Disagree
🔍 Pros vs Cons Decision Making
📝 Advantages and Disadvantages Experiential Worksheet
Daily Feedback 💬📋💬🔄
When you work together, you must give each other “daily feedback” on more things than when you work out of the office, separately. Always remember that it is completely okay — and actually extremely healthy — to not agree all of the time. Sometimes you must agree to disagree. 💬
Agree to Disagree 💬🤝🤷♂️🤷♀️
It is totally alright to-agree-to-not-agree when tensions mount and when decisions are being faced, objectively. Sometimes decisions may require us to go back to it or sleep on a decision we must make the next day. Being objective instead of subjective works great! Taking the objective approach has a certain re-assuring and calming effect. Because by being ‘objective,’ we are concerned mostly about facts. 💭🧠
And it’s reliable to consider that by being objective, we are less influenced by our own personal feelings or “could be” biases when making important business decisions. Objectivity helps to remove emotion, allowing clearer rationality. This gives us the ability to be fair, understanding both points of view. By being objective, it makes our work more reliable, professional, and trustworthy. 🤝
Pros vs Cons Decision Making 📝🤔✅❌
Then, look at the facts. Get a piece of paper and something to write with. Draw a line going across the top of the page, horizontally. And draw a line down the center of the page, vertically. Next, write down the word “Advantages” on the line on the upper left side of the paper. Then write the word “Disadvantages” on the line on the upper right corner of the paper. This page gives us information about how to see things as they ‘really’ are. Facts are facts. We do this small exercise together to see clearly. By doing so, we are both able to consider both sides of an argument and work to avoid making value judgments. It’s important to receive information from a different point of view, that is given from a different perspective. A perspective other than your own. 💖

🤝🤝💼 Does it Help or Harm Your Relationship to Work Together Most of the Time? 🕒💑
I’ve met with a lot of business owners over the years. I can totally appreciate and understand why some people may struggle working together. And others simply adore it and would have it no other way! Working together gives the relationship strengths you wouldn’t have without working together. I know that more than most people who work together can appreciate the big change of habit. Unless you desire to work together with your loved one, or you have experienced working with your loved one yourself, you may not see all of the pluses attached to working together at first. Whereas those pluses are what make working together for us, the most desirable decision. Our personalities complement each other! Our work backgrounds support each other. So why not?💪🔍🕵️♂️
🤝 How to Maintain a Strong Partnership 🤝
When you are super excited about something, stop for a moment and take a look at all options. Considering another person’s opinion can be hard. Especially when you’re psyched about something, taking a pause to consider another opinion can be annoying. Yet when you ask Gene, he’ll tell you it’s essential. “Listen to one another and be very respectful. Incorporating this into your ‘working relationship’ will allow each other to feel heard and appreciated when difficult discussions come up that may have an effect on the business,” he continues. “Going into business with a spouse is essentially like another marriage; you need to work in tandem to produce the best outcome possible.” 🤝
💑 The Importance of Quality Time Together 💑
First and foremost, exercise patience. “Don’t sweat the small things. After all, they are things, and what matters more is that your commitment to each other is strong, showcasing your business as one of the best in the industry. Most importantly, don’t forget to take time for each other. Dinner, movie nights, even just a walk at the mall. This is not a time to discuss business; this is a time to connect and reflect on your relationship and how far you have come as a couple,” Laura recommends. 💑
❤️ Respect and Understanding ❤️
Respect goes a long way. “There are always going to be joint decisions that come up in which someone is not going to get their way, but if you can keep those to a minimum, you will be healthier for it. In the end, it can be a great thing for a relationship. We each do our own thing, but we also deal with the same people, have the same worries about the industry, and put our hearts into making the same company move forward,” he adds. 💼❤️
📈 Let Each Other Shine in Your Expertise 📈
Let each other have the final say in their areas of expertise. “I will always defer to Laura on any creative or design decisions, and she always will defer to me on any business or financial decision,” Gene shares. “Having a shared, well-defined mission about why you are doing this in the first place is helpful. For us, we can always go back to our mission and say, ‘Is this good for us, is it good for our business and for our lives?’" 📈👩💼👨💼
🌟 What They've Learned About Their Relationship 🌟
The importance of picking your battles — some things are simply not worth arguing about. “We aren’t always going to agree, and not everything is going to work out the way we planned. Sometimes, I bite my tongue and look past the disagreement, try to focus on something that matters more and move on. While Gene loves to tease and playfully argue, he is so fiercely loyal and unconditionally loves our family,” Laura shares. 💖
🌟 The Secret to Their Success 🌟
They have 17 years together under their belt — and they’ve figured out how to push one another forward. “We are very lucky in that we complement each other. Gene is much better at anything financial and in business strategy behind the scenes while I am more comfortable doing the business website, design work, and marketing. We both love being the public voice of the company and interacting with customers. We both spend a great deal of time all day tackling the nuts and bolts of running a company. We both prefer to be more hands-on, whether in the kitchen or the woods,” Laura shares. 🌟🤝👫
Gene shares they’ve learned so much more about being a couple by founding a company than they imagined they would. “We are strong as individuals, and when we are put into certain situations together, we are a force of goodness coming at you. We are truly able to appreciate each other for the individual goals that we each have and being able to combine these goals to make a better sustainable life,” he continued. For Gene, it’s confirmed all of his original notions that they’ve made an incredible team. “In every aspect of our lives, our personalities and our very different ways of looking at the world complement one another. Laura is more of a dreamer and I am more of a doer.💪🔑
She will say, ‘I would love to do this or this would be amazing,’ and I am off and running to make it happen. Or I will bring a project to her, only for her to turn it on its head and come back with something so much better than anything I had dreamed of myself,” He continued. “Of course, it is these things that can cause conflicts, yet for the most part we have so much respect for each other and our individual talents, that we are able to work through these differences pretty easily.” 💰
We can put it lightly: we are both super-duper hardworking. “We are dedicated and passionate about what we do. We are a very close family and love spending time with our children and grandchildren. We are definitely both strong personality types. We divide and conquer. We don’t have any free time,” Laura shares. 🔑🛠️
🌟What They’ve Learned About Their Careers🌟
Unlike when two people work different gigs in various industries, there’s a certain foundation that comes from being in business with your partner, Laura shares. “When you have to cover all of that territory, you have no choice but to divide and conquer. It forced us to examine which aspects of the business each of us was good at and jump into those roles. What has been great about working with my husband is that we respect each other’s abilities; knowing someone you trust is in charge makes it that much less stressful,” she explains. 📈💼
Even though they both had killer jobs before they became entrepreneurs, they knew the corporate grind wasn’t for them. “We started with a mission of having a healthy life-work balance. This original mission still guides us on all our major decisions. We have never grown for the sake of ‘bigger, better, more,’ as we have always known we would take freedom and time over money. We strongly believe that time is a currency more valuable than money, and that is a hard thing to hold on to when you are growing rapidly,” Gene shared. “We both grew up in hard-working families, so it was natural for us to start our own business one day.”🤝🔍
Much like being in a relationship, Laura says the greatest lesson has been found in being able to celebrate each other’s talents and find ways to use them effectively. “I have learned that my wife is amazing at design and foreseeing what something will look like in her head when completed, whereas my strength in business is forecasting sales and running numbers to have a healthy and successful business. We’ve combined our strengths and produced one of the most well-known companies in the gifting industry to this day,” Gene added. 🧠😊
🌟How They Met🌟
They met for the first time at one of the most beautiful places in the world — up in the fantastic mountains at Duck Creek, outside of Cedar City, Utah. Both Gene and Laura learned how important it is to practice the use of manifestation. By simply aligning themselves with their relationship goals, they attracted each other. Excited to find true love and happiness, they visualized exactly what they wanted, tapped into the emotional state of this desire, took action steps to make it happen, and then stepped back with faith, leaving it up to the Universe to come through with the desired result. ❤️🌄
During the summer of 2008, they met online through a dating website. They dated for almost a year, and in 2009, they decided to commit to each other. Marriage and many other adventures followed; five children and all of their extracurricular activities! Ever since then, they have kept the fire burning alive between them. 💑✨
They enjoy traveling across America, making healthy choices, and feeling strong! They were meant to be together. Eight months later, they founded 911 Credit Builder, Heartbeat 4 Prosperity, and EIN Credit Funding. 🤝📅
By 2010, all three businesses were up and running. 🏃♂️🏃♀️🏢📈📊👨💼👩💼🚀💼
🌟How to Use Their Words to Get Through Anything🌟
As Laura explains, it can make a difference in how the company is handled and how we feel toward each other. “The opportunity that we have had to work together and open a business has taught us that properly communicating, and delegating is incredibly important in our careers in order to succeed. We both know what we are in charge of,” she explains. 🗣️💬🤝🔑👥
Though there is no magical secret sauce to being successful in business or in marriage, they have oddly similar requirements. From the ability to respect and trust one another to the need for passion and fervent communication — these fundamentals go a long way in bonding two people together in love or an LLC. For couples who have decided to not only take a risk in love but in testing their entrepreneurial skills out together, the journey teaches them about their relationships — and their career strengths and shortcomings. 🚀🔑📈
